We just got our one month old male Boxer. We have another dog that stays outside, he is a male French Poodle. He stays outside because I could not spend enough time to train him when he got to our house. He was in a house where he could pee and poop in the bathroom so he was used to going in the house. I tried everything he was just really stubborn to learn.
So we brought home our boxer and we are training him to stay inside. I am "crate" training him. Our poodle sees that he is inside, sees that we hold him a lot, especially when we take them both on walks since our boxer can't keep up.
We have spent more time with the poodle now than any time before because we don't want him to get jealous.
When we put them together, they just smell each other and the whole time, the poodle is wagging his tail. So I don't think he has a problem with the boxer but I don't want him to feel.
Does anyone have any advice as far as thing we could do to prevent any jealousy between the dogs?
Answers:
Sounds like a perfect time to train your poodle. It is not fair to treat him differently and it will lead to problems later on. Dogs are pack animals and must be treated as equals by their pack leader (you).Crate train the poodle as well.
Poodles are lovable, intelligent dogs and are not suited as outside dogs.
Smelling is normal dog behavior and the poodle wagging his tail is a friendly behavior.
If you train both of them and treat them as equals, they will become best friends.
Dogs, and humans are naturally jealous. All you can do is give both of them attention. Mabey the one that is more behind more attention. Taking them on separate walks its a very good way!
Good Luck
theres really nothing u can do. they will either get along or not. most likely they will. i got 2 a few months apart about 7 years ago, and they get along great. the hardest is with the new baby, that they dont understand
