I have just purchased a german shepherd pup i do not recognise the registration club they gave me?

they have not got pups papers yet but will post them on to me but i love the dog anyway so is he german shepherd or mongril
Answers:
It depends on which registry it is..If it is a APR, Continental Kennel club or many of the others, there is no real proof required to get a dog registered with them. If it is UKC, or KC, or Canadian Kennel club, it is legitimate, and likely to be purebred..However, there are unscrupulous breeders even within the legitimate registries.

the best way to get what you want, is to visit the home of the breeder, to make certain the parents are just as you want your dog to be..
does it matter its a pet love him anyway
Don't know what country you're in..but if it's the UK then the papers should be from the Kennel Club. It's the only pedigree registration recognised here.

But the dog's the important thing. Pedigree, mongrel, who cares if you've got a good dog and you get along?
That depends if the shots were done already. I got my puppy at 8 weeks and shots were already done. I have an american eskimo and is UKC registered. The woman we bought her from had the papers done just after the shots were taken care of. If you know the name of the club, look it up online and see if it is real. If unable to find it then the people probably lied, call a vet and see their take on it. Either way if ya love him and don't plan on showing or breeding for profit, it doesn't really matter I don't think.
The FCI (F茅d茅ration Cynologique Internationale) includes:

AKC and UKC in the U.S.
Australian National Kennel Club
Canadian Kennel Club
Kennel Club in the UK
Kennel Club in India
Continental Kennel Club in Europe
Kennel Union of South Africa

If it's not listed there, then you might have a problem on your hands, but of course if you care about the dog, then that's what matters.
"If you care about the dog then it doesn't matter"... true, but if you care about your bank balance as well then it probably does. Pedigree animals are NOT cheap! I got stitched up a while back with a pedigree cat and am now an AWFUL lot of money down because of it. I love the cat to bits but I didn't pay 拢1000 for a pet moggie, I paid it for a quality cat I could also show (and breed from). I suggest you check if the club your pup is allegedly registered with is genuine, and if not, take the breeder to the small claims court and get your money back. Charging people a lot of money for something which isn't what you asked for is technically theft.
What about the pedigree, do you have that? When you get the papers look the registering club then contact them. As someone has already said there is only one club recognised in the UK for pedigree dogs and that's the Kennel Club.
As a matter of interest our Kennel Club is not a member of the fci.
If you have paid for a pedigree pup and don't have one, while I'm sure you love him anyway, I would look at getting some money back.
Good luck
As you say it doesn't matter as you love him anyway!
It is unlikely that you will ever receive anything from these people as papers are always signed and handed over at the point of sale.
It doesn't really matter unless the breeder told you that you would get a certain registration paper. If you're in the US, you should have gotten AKC papers.

Either way, it doesn't really matter. If you're happy and you love the pup, you got a good deal.
You don't RECOGNIZE it because it's a FAKE!!!
LMAO!
You got SCREWED!

AKC is the ONLY registry in the USA.The KC is the ONLY one in GB %26 FCI is the ONLY international.
when i first got my gsd as a pup he came with the registration no of both his parents and a small booklet of parentage IE parents grand parents etc also i had the name and address of the breeder i then phoned the kennel club to register him if you do not have any of the details of both parents then i doubt weather your dog is pedigree you need to find out because if you have been sold a pup as a pedigree and paid the amount of money pedigree gsd cost then the breeder would be braking the law selling a non pedigree as a pedigree also the breeder should have registered the litter i also got my dogs pedigree name when i picked him up you should also know the hip score etc of the parents i suggest you go back and ask for these details good luck
PS i notice a lot of people have said that it doesn't matter well I'm here to tell you it does GSD have a lot of genetic faults and your dog might still be the product of 2 pedigrees but the parents might have a problem in the line and you could end up with a lot of problems in the future i say this because my GSD dog had a excellent pedigree but he still died at the age of 8yrs to cancer of the spleen which is just one of the problems these dogs have so please if you intend keeping the dog have him checked out by your vet and make sure you have him hip scored in the future skin allergies are the most common ailment also please have him castrated as soon as he is 6months these dogs also get inlarged prostrates in later years and by having him castrated it can prevent it
try and get them to show you pedigree papers of the parents, ask to see mother and father, you need to see generation pedigree papers if this dog is a registered German Shepherd, hope this helps.
I was contacted some years ago about joining an alternative to the kennel club, may be they managed to get some members, but personally id try and register it with the K C, if you want to show the pup or breed with it in the future, and the support the KC gives its members in all areas is so good, so good luck as said by others you should have his papers,do you now a a long standing breeder that has the K C breed books for the last few years you might be able trace his pedigree that way,I have breed dog dogs for 30 years, and register them at 6weeks, and allow them to go to new homes 8 weeks onwards, the pedigree is always available at that time, but the kennel club reg is not always back, and they have to b posted on,phone them and ask for the name and reg number of both parants, that way youll have something to go on
