I have an 11 week old female JRT. How old can a puppy be to go into heat and what are the signs?

She saw the vet today, was vaccinated and had a good check-up. When we got home she had an accident in the house and I noticed her urine was bloody. I picked her up and she whined like she was hurting. She has also been hiding from me and won't come when I call her. Is she in heat or is this a serious problem? This is my first puppy, please help.

She's not in heat!! I would call the vet and inform him of the problem. He will probably want you to come in so he can check her out.
Ummm... spay her. That's the most responsible thing to do. Although you should check up with the vet, just to make sure.
Puppies don't mature and reach adulthood until 6-8 mos. of life.

So now that you know this, we can rule out the fact that she has gone into heat. She hasn't.

This can be a sign of many things like a urinary tract infection (yep - dogs get them to). Call your veterinarian and notify him of the problem immediately.

They should have taken a blood/urine/fecal sample from your puppy during her evaluation.
i agree she's not in heat, she whined because her tooshee is sore from vac., how does your arm feel after a flu shot? A little blood in her urine might be a reaction to the shot. best to take to vet. and the thing that worked for me, is to keep the room well lit but quiet and lay on the floor near where the puppy is hiding and whine alittle, just like her, always make baby talk and keep smiling like nothing is wrong, if you sound like panic and remorse she will pick up on those vibes.
DEFINATELY not in heat. WAY too young. Get her to the vet, and explain everything.
Hi there, Your puppy still may be scared you are going to take her back to the vet. Dogs do not go into heat until 6 months old. She sounds like she is nervous. Try to make her feel secure and give her lots of love. If she continues to have a bloody show in her urine in a few days then call the vet. Best Wishes
