I have recently had a stray pit bull come in a few weeks ago, how can I find him a good home?

He is a wounderful dog and is not aggressive to people, so far. Nor is he aggressive to other animals. I allready have a full house of pets and need to find him a good home. Can anyone tell me from personal experience the best way to place such a dog so he does not end up abused!
Answers:
First, take him to the vet to check to see if he has a microchip, if no, call your local animal control and ask if anyone has called, missing a pitbull. Put signs up in your area and newspaper for 7 days and if no one claims him, go to petfinders.org. Look under shelter and rescue groups and find a rescue that takes in 'Bully breeds'. Pitbulls are wonderful and loyal creatures in the right hands. If you try to find him a home on your own, make sure you charge a fee, so that the person interested is actually serious. Good Luck
No Kill Pet Rescue Shelters
There may be a pitbull rescue near you. Try googling 'pitbull rescue, your state' and see if there is one available. Rescue's usually concentrate on one breed and find homes with people who are looking for that breed.
If you can, get the dog checked out, spayed/ neutered, all shots. Then turn around and place him on pet finder and charge what it cost you to get the work done.
Well you have been with him for a couple of weeks so you kinda know what he likes and how he acts so then you should put him in an add in the newspaper and have the people that are interested in him then put them thorugh a interveiw and if they answer all your questions to the fullest then they are the right ones for the put bull...
A shelter right now. Just go to a vet if you don't know where a shelter is near you, and ask them. They would be glad to help you.
take him to a shelter
Contact your insurance agent, he will tell you what the best thing to do is, especially if you have any assets, that dog may be running loose for a reason! And no, I'm not a dog hater, but I have seen friends wind up in court by doing exactly what you are doing, being a good person. One dog hung around a friends house, he felt sorry for it, then it killed the neighbors cat and chickens, in court, he told the judge it wasnt My dog, the judge replied, "You know how many times I heard that?" He paid for the damadges...
post in craiglist
do not train it to fight so he will be good with people %26 other dogs!! and things will go good!! trust me i have two nice pit bulls
I think a pit bull rescue is your best bet. No kill shelters are great but extremely overcrowded and could be very hard for him to handle. And any other shelter would unfortunalty label him "pit bull" rather than a "good dog".. making room for all the other "nicer" breeds. Pits are wonderful and have such a bad rap. Good luck.
Check with friends and family and see if any of them would like a new addition to their family. If not then post flyers at your local vet and maybe in local stores and pet stores and places like that. When you find prospective parents make sure you question them and I would even do a home inspection to be sure they have a fenced yard and that they disclosed all family and pets in the home to you to be sure they all get along. Also have them come to your home to soend time with the dog first and bring all members of the household and see how the enteract with the dog and vice versa. It is wonderful that you care so much to find a good loving caring home for the dog. You can not be 100 % sure they will not abuse the dog no matter how hard you try but doing those things will help some. Also if he is not neutered yet make sure they sign a contract to have him neutered and make them follow up with you in a certain amount of time to be sure they did actually do it. That way you know they dont just want to use him to breed with their female or something like that. Thsi contract should read that if it is not done in the time frame indicated that the dog can be retrieved from them by you. I do this with all pups and other dogs I foster. Good luck and bless you.
Pitt bulls are hard to place even no kill shelters have a different attitude bout pitt bulls. So please ask what their policy is for pittbulls. I still believe if you can not find a Pitt rescue shelter then calling other local shelters would be the best way to place this dog GOOD LUCK!!!
