I just got an 8 week old west highland white terrier puppy. He is perfect, besides his pooping.?

He poops about 6 times an hour, which is obviously quite excessive, and he seems to strain himself when he poops. He sometimes whimpers. He isn't constipated because each time he tries, he poops. The poop isn't very hard or very soft, it's right about in the middle. I don't understand what would be making this happen. He eats fine, doesn't throw up, and is active. He just has this pooping problem.

We feed him on a regular schedule. Once in the morning and once at night. We feed him purina beneful for puppies.

That's not normal, you need to get him to the vet. And I would change his food to something better. Read the label, the first ingredient should be meat, not corn. Corn is only a filler, dogs can't digest it.

At 8 weeks he should be getting 3 or 4 meals a day.
Well it is ok! He still does not know the house that well.So leave it alone and pick up te poo
well for starters thats not a very good food. it could be that you need to switch to something better. try a food that is chicken and oatmeal or chicken and rice or lamb and rice. its very easy to upset a puppies tummy. also it could be worms. get him in for a check up if things dont clear up in a week or so.
Is that the food the breeder fed him? I agree, it's not a good food, but you should be SLOWLY (over a week or so) switching him to something other than what his breeder fed him. Any signs of worms? Youshould be taking him to the vet early next week anyways for a check up to ensure he's doing well and has no issues- ask the vet about it.
