I just got a 7 wk old great dane/coonhound mixed puppy. Anybody ever have this type of mix?

If so, do you have any advice for me on training, adult size, personality traits, and possible future problems?
Answers:
It's too bad the dog was sold so young. They are supposed to be with their mamas till 8 weeks of age.

The dog will probably be fairly large size.
Look in your phone book for local trainers and take the dog to obedience class. Hunting dogs do better with training and working with their handler.

Go to the akc website to learn about both parental breeds. From the akc site you can go to the National Breed Group website and learn mroe about the personality traits.

It's hard to tell you the traits of your dog as a cross breed can pick up traits of one breed or the other and so you need to know the traits of both parental breeds and then just watch as your dog develops. It might have more of a dane personality or it could be more like a coonhound.

The breed website will also give you hints on possible future problems.

Also, go to Yahoo groups and join a dane group and a coonhound group and talk to people with similar dogs.
I have Bloodhounds, which is actually pretty close being a Giant Breed Scenthound. Your dog is going to be huge. Take the puppy to the vet and get it's shots and wormings. There is a lot of Parvo going around right now. Crate training is a good idea to start. Puppy obedience classes. I would get him/her neutered/spayed asap. It really sounds like a wonderful mix. Thank-you for adopting a hound.
nope sounds cool though
I haven't had a mix like that but I have had a Coonhound and you just have to train your puppy the same way you would any puppy. It takes a lot of patience and love. Coongounds and Great Danes are very intelligent dogs and catch on quickly. If you work with it now, you will have a great dog when it gets older. You can research the breeds online or at a library.
I have never heard of this mix. But I do know that a lot of Great Danes, due to their large size have hip problems so that is something that you will have to monitor. Ask the vet if there are any special vitamin supplements that could help prevent those problems. Great Danes also have shorter life spans than most dogs. Good luck with your puppy, I;m sure he/she is adorable!
i never that mix but i did have a great dane and boxer mix, his personality was great, he was the biggest lap dog if u had a plate of food and didnt move it so he could at least lay his head in ur lap he would eat ur food, didnt care what it was, i know that ur mix is different but i hope this helps u in some way or another. good luck .
