I just came home and found my dog dead! what should i do? i dont know what happen help!!!!!?

Take him to the vet - the vet can arrange for cremation if you wish and may be able to tell you why your dog died.
i'm sorry. i had that happen with my cat a few years back. i called my parents all crying and stuff. i put him in the trunk of the car, and drove the hour to my parents house, and we buried him in the back yard. well, my dad did... i was too upset to do it. again, i'm so sorry about that.
Call your dog's veterinarian, and ask if they have services for cremation, or you can just bury your dog in your backyard (it has to be on your personal property!). Your vet can also preform a necropsy (autopsy for animals) to determine the cause of death. I'm very sorry for your loss.
Might've been hypoglycemic shock.
Hypoglycemic shock, happens when a dog's blood sugar falls too low. This will result in death. If left alone for too long (6+ hours) without food, dogs (especially smaller ones) are prone to this.
It could also be other things. Poisoning? Overheating? Choking? It's hard to say since you have no other details.

Call your Vet ASAP, they always have an emergency number especially with it being on Sunday. Was this very unexpected or was he/she sick or old? Yes, I am sorry also for your loss...it's just like losing a child!!
i'm sorry for your loss, but do what everyone else wrote, take him to the vet for a proper cremation or something like that, unless you wanna bury it yourself, again i'm sorry, i hate it when that happens
Did he get any of the dog foods on the list of bad ones in the recent pet poisonings? Is there anything else around the house he could have eaten? Other than checking these things out the only other thing is an autopsy and they are very expensive.

That happened to me only I have bunnies. I was really sad and cried a lot. I still miss them and I act like they are still with me and they are always in my heart!
take him to the emergency vet as they can take care of that for you. you can't keep the dog in the house until tomorrow as the body will really smell especially since it's warm out. once there dead the body starts decaying and you don't want that smell in your house. take it to the emergency vet as soon as you can. sorry about your dog.
I am so sorry! Was he old? He might of died of low blood shugar, choking, overheating, ect... what every body else said. I am so sorry you should take him to the vet to see how he died. Hello...if she's a puppy, accidents are gonna happen %26 the crate has to be SMALL..the smallest they make, if that don't do it...block half the crate so she only has room to turn, stand %26 stretch ( that's all they need %26 really prefer, dogs are nesters- close quarters don't bother them, also feeding schedules are a must, 15 minutes down, then up till the next feeding time ..and so you know, some chi's never completey potty train well, some even use litter boxes ...just never use clumping litter around dogs !! It's not about their size or bladder sizes either, just how some little dogs can be, they prefer to train their owners rather then be trained LOL ..little puppys like chi's etc do need water @ least 3 times a day !!! Take Care :) I do have more detailed details on my 360 as well, just to me their too big for Answer posts...Take Care :)

You may need to do it every one or two hours, because they will do anything to get the waste out of their bodies, even if they have to get it into their beds.

After at least 6 months you can move the pads to another area closer to the outside or outside. Keep a pad in the same area just in case. Try to catch the pup or dog in the act and redirect them to the outside or yard where you want them to go. This won't take long to do since they are already trained to go in one spot. Be sure to praise, praise, praise, so he/she knows that what they are doing is the right thing. It will pay off. You have to be consistent. Don't by any means let the dog have the run of the house because you are asking for accidents, and you will never get the poor dog potty trained. The best training is to prevent accidents before they happen. The poor animal does not know when you hit them, or punish them what they have done wrong, so please don't hit the dog. You can scold him/her if you catch them in the act, but do it immediately, not a few seconds later. The animal forgets quickly. They will only learn to be afraid of you if you hit them. They are only doing what comes naturally and can't figure out why you keep hitting him/her. So please, praise, praise, praise. That's when you get results. When you catch them in the act, immediately yell "NO". This will let him/her know that what they are doing is wrong. Immediately take them to the correct place to potty. Be consistent, and patient. It will pay off.

I just bought a silent dog whistle but dont know how to use it?
i tried it out on her and different levels and she didnt seem to care. am i doing something wrong?

when you blow the whistle you need to call your dog by her name straight after and then that way she will associate the whistle with you wanting her to come at the moment she doesn't know what you want give it a try for a couple of days calling her name after you have blown the whistle then the next week try blowing the whistle without calling her name and see if she comes to you if she doesn't just keep calling her name for a while and then using the whistle on its own again she will soon catch on especially if you reward her after she comes to you

I just adopted a Westie and he is being finicky about eating, why?
He will only eat if I bring his bowl to him and he goes to his water bowl only sparingly, as if he doesn't know either exist. Is this due to the location change, nervousness in a new environment, or something else?

Don't carry his bowl to him. Give him a day or two to settle and of course take him to the vet right away for a checkup. Make sure he's not running a fever and doesn't have any dental problems. Did you find out what he'd been eating. If not the vet can sell you canned food that is hard to resist, to get him eating at first, then you can reduce the canned and go to totally dry.
He probably is nervous. I crate train my dogs and feed my dogs in their crates twice a day. I don't leave food down.
Skipping food for a day or two won't hurt him. The vet can tell you if there is any physical reason for him to be off food.
Feed on a schedule and pick up the food after 15-20 minutes twice a day. Much easier to housebreak that way also.
If he's submissive then he may not want to eat in front of you. Put the food down and walk away. Feed in the same place each time. Rescued dogs love routine.
Also take him for walks so he's had exercise and will feel more hungry. Unless he is looking ill.

First. WESTIES ARE AWSOME! They are rockin. And when I bought mine he didnt eat for several days. Now he only eats Ceaser in cans. Maybe you should contact a vet or just try waiting. Dont ever move his bowl. If he doesnt eat for several hours take HIM to the BOWL not the bowl to him. Thats what our vet suggested.

There's several things that could cause this, first off you need to establish that you are in charge and that if he wants to eat he will have to come to his bowl.He's training you to bring him food, you must teach him that when you fill his bowl he better come and eat. You should allow him about 15 to 20 min to eat if he choose not too, pick up his bowl and don't put it back down until it's time for the next feeding, it's tough but he will eat when he get's hungry. Your correct about the other reasons, they all come into play when changing environment , food types or stress...all could effect his eating. You should also have him checked for worms..this could bother his appetite as well.
Did you change his diet or anything?? Sometimes change of environment will make them nervous or uncomfortable..

5) Be careful and educated about Bloat (gastric tortion): no exercise OR water for 30 minutes before eating, feed small frequent meals (3 times a day is ideal!) throughout th day, and NO water or exercise for an hour after eating! Very important!

Things you should know - they are susceptable to several major health problems that ensure their life expectancy isnt long - around 9 years.

The best thing you can do is visit several shows and talk to / befriend other people that show that are willing to show you the ropes and teach you the lingo.
It might be a good idea for you to join a Yahoo group of show people in your breed. I know there is a group for show beagles, etc. There will be people there who have VAST experience in showing your breed and will be happy to help you with advice.

i got my dog when he was 2yrs. He is a black pomeranian and he is always peeing inside the house, the bad part is my house is all white we had to change the carpet because it was that bad and now is starting to mess up the new tile we installed. Please someone help

I had the same problem when I adopted a male neutered pom. He marked on table legs, laundry baskets, etc. I finally bought some belly bands and made him wear them when I couldn't watch him. I bought four of them so I could keep changing and washing them regularly. He only had to wear them a couple of weeks, and then he stopped marking in the house. You can get them at just about any pet supply store such as Petsmart, Petco, or do an online search. They worked for us.
Have you tried on working a little harder at the potty training? Maybe the dog has issues or a health problem. If the dog is persisting in doing this, I would consider getting him checked out to make sure there isn't a bladder infection. Good Luck

I heard yellow lab puppies with pink noses are to be avoided, any truth behind this?

Any lab with a thoroughly pink nose or one lacking in pigment is disqualified according to AKC standards. I'm not telling you not to get one, but definitely do not breed one. The lack of pigment in their nose is a sign of a mutated gene. Which means, that there is a good chance that there are more mutated genes.
Example: White Schnauzer -there are many of them out there that are perfectly fine dogs. But the ones that I have met have been aggressive. And, their puppies have been worse.
Any time the AKC (or anyone who has expertise with a particular breed) avoids a particular trait, they have a good reason for it.
That sounds like a myth. Only thing I can think of is sunburn in the summer?
I've never heard that before. I looked it up and it seems that's just a rule for dog shows.
The noses should be dark but some breeds (such as labs and goldens) have dark noses that will fade to a somewhat pinkish-brown color during the cold winter months. They darken again in summer. That is OK. See the breed standard below. A fully pink nose is a disqualification.
We had a yellow lab with a pink nose and had no problems except to be careful the dogs nose didn't get sunburned. :) I think the only reason to avoid a lab with a pink nose is if you plan on showing the dog at dog shows. They have strict rules on how a dog being shown should look.
Loss of pigment is in no way a health risk as far as I know. They do need to have care taken in the summer months so they dont get a sun burn but other than that No I have never hear to avoid them.
NOTE: This does mean that it is a major fault and is a disqualification for showing. For a pet it is just fine.
Well, that depends. If you're planning on getting a Yellow Lab to show it in conformation (dog shows), then you should not get a puppy that has a pink nose - it's a disqualification at shows.
However, that applies only to true "pink" noses. Some Lab noses are a brownish color called "liver", and some Labs' noses also tend to fade toward liver as they get older. While liver is considered a fault, it's not a disqualification.
If you want the puppy as a companion and don't plan on showing, there's nothing wrong with a pink nose!

Not something that'll affect a dog as a pet, but one of the persnickety things the look for in the show ring is a dark nose- an all pink one is a disqualification. BUT may yellow labs have a pink patch's and this can even vary with season - my brothers was dark in summer and faded in winter (same dog each season).
It is a fault according to the breed standard. For a pet it does not matter. But if you are looking at puppies to buy, try to educate yourself so you know how to find a good breeder.
And find a puppy that will grow up to be a healthy dog.
If you want a dog to show, then buy from a member of the National and local Labrador Retriever club. And learn what questions to ask before you go see puppies.

Depending on their age and if your female was in heat then you may have pups on the way. You can get your females sprayed right away to stop the pregnancy and then you will not have to worry about any further pups.
There is not much you can do except seperate hope mabye the mating didn't take and reduce the litter size in the event that they have only mated once... you never know if they mated before un observed so you more than likely have a litter on the way. I am not going to rant on how irresponsable this was but I am going to mention it.
Why aren't at least one of them fixed? You can't have a male and female together and expect them not to mate. That is just asking for trouble.

the vet can give your female dog an injection that will stop the pregnancy and i suggest that you have at least the male castrated and then you will stop the problem in the future but it would be best to have both dogs neutered and that way you will sort out both your problems but remember in breeding happens all the time this is how breeders keep the lines pure and that is why most breeds have so many genetic faults,its a shame that most people just keep harping on about the so called designer dog at least they are not in bred for obtaining a dog that can win best of breed most hybrid dog owners have their dogs for pets and not just to win a competition
Why do you have siblings living together while they're still intact AND with the female on heat? Go and SPAY the girl and NEUTER the boy TOMORROW and stop being so irresponsible.
At the very least, have the female neutered as soon as possible. If she is pregnant, it will abort the puppies but they would, most likely, have been unhealthy anyway.
Get at least the female fixed immediately. If you are squeamish about abortion, ask the vet to not tell you if she was pregnant.
Inbreeding can bring out genetic problems and is discouraged.

I have two puppies that were dumped in my neighborhood a week ago. They are black and look like labs.?
They look to be 6 to 7 weeks old by size and teeth development. I wormed them with the liquid worm and gave heart worm medication one week after worming. They both have a little brown in the paw area and behind area. They both are female and walk with back legs sort of boxy. After I get them shots and and checked by the vet I will try to adopt them out. Does anyone have any thoughts on what you think they may be mixed with. I have a four year old lab and a 12 week old lab they spend time with and it works real well. I just don't want to have a pair of dogs taht may be agressive with they get older.

Although you might have a huge yard for her to run around in, dogs will never burn all the energy they have by themselves. They'll run around some, but not enough. Get her out for a fast paced walk. Be sure that she is trotting seens that that is a dogs normal pace. If shes not trotting than shes burning no energy. Play fetch and other games to wear her out. Kong toys stuffed with kibble and peanut butter, And Nylabones. Good luck.

They like digging in the same spots (mine anyways!). After you fill the hole, sprinkle cyanne pepper all over it, then put a light layer of dirt over it. When it starts to re-dig the hole, he/she gets a big jolt! If you do a couple different spots, and it happens 2 or 3 times, they tend not to continue the behaviour. My dog was 4 and she learned, fast. And the burning in her nose and mouth etc. only lasted longer enough for her to know it hurts.
you can put chicken wire down on the grass, it keeps your doggy from digging, and lets the grass grow.
or you can also put Cayenne pepper down (the smell irritates the dogs nose)

I do not recommend the wire in the grass. If they do decide to dig there they can get a leg/paw caught in it and be injured. I agree the dogmight need more exercise. Digging is a natural thing for dogs and actually good exercise and good for them. You can also make a designated area for her to dig by placing landscape timbers in a square and start a hole for her. Dogs can learn to dog in designated areas.
You should see the caves my Danes have made in their yards. I gave up and besides... the dirt is gone anyway. LOL Never enough dirt to refill the hole! Good Luck!

Answers:
Feed the dog and block the aggressive one from trying to get to the dog that is eating. Eventually the aggressor will tire and will retreat. You have to be the dominate one. Continue this practice til it becomes a learned behavior. If you have the patience, assertiveness, and CALMNESS (you must stay calm) this shouldn't take but 1 or 2 feedings to get through. Try it and let us know how it goes. DO NOT HIT YOUR DOG or even pet your dog at this time. DO NOT feed your dogs seperately, after you get through this training all of you will be able to enjoy eating together. People keep telling you to feed the dogs seperately and that would be a very BIG mistake! Please do not try this, what you will do if you feed them seperately is create a division, and all the training you have done w/ the dogs will go out the window. Feeding seperately will create a multitude of "packs" in a "pack" you would never see a Mother feeding one pup at a time they all eat together. Feeding is a ritual the pups learn from this and work as a team as they mature. Please for goodness sake DO NOT FEED SEPERATELY!

You can feed them in separate rooms or just spit up the bowls and stand beside them and enforce your rule on eating. Make sure that the dog who is not allowing the other to eat knows better. Hold him back if he tries to go to the other bowl. My dog use to do that and finally he learned that I was not going to allow that. So now he waits for my other dog to get done eating and then finishes her bowl.

Certain breeds have a strong food agression problem and should always be allowed to have their food in their own area. It comes with the breed and if purchased from a breeder you should have educated about it.
Abused dogs and dogs from shelters and rescues unfortunattly will display the same aggresion. When a dog knows hunger, he will not want to share and it is really hard to break. You might have the sweetest dogs but rather than causing a fight feed them seperatly, let it be their time to enjoy their food. Nothing wrong with that.

Not sure what the surface is...I agree a washable surface will help a lot. That said, I don't have one, so below is what i do. Mind you I have one dog, two at times (I foster), and a couple of cats (who go at home) in a fairly good-sized run.
1) There are products to help with getting your dogs to go in one area, so that they are less apt to run through it or have it all over the place. I've seen pheromone releasing posts, for example. Not sure how they work, but worth a try if it will help. I was lucky, mine trained herself to go in one region, and, so far, has trained the other dogs that come over, too. I just need to keep it clean!
2) I occasionally spray down with a yard spray (Yard Odor Killer brandname) I get at the pet store. It works for concrete and is safe for plants and pets.
3) For the indoor area, (it is part of the garage), I will mop with one of the enzymatic cleaners from time to time for general doggie smells. (I use Nature's Miracle laundry detergent or cleaner)
4) For the dirt areas, I put down bark. I get that at places like Home Depot. It keeps things from getting muddy, and I don't have to deal with grass. Occasionally (1/ year) I will add another bag if it seems to be getting thin. Seems to also help with the smell.
All pet products I metnion are available online or at most pet stores. I just looked at petsmart, they have the two brands I mention online.
Try washing the kennel area with bleach %26 water (rinse real good). It'll kill germs and help the smell.

You haven't said how old she is or on which leg she's limping. If its a joint problem you could try her on something called "Sasha's blend" it's basically glucosamine which is a human medication derived from shark cartilidge for the treatment of arthritis. You should also consider taking her to your vet to have the problem correctly diagnosed.
NO NO Ibuprofin at all. It will make your dog very, very sick. NO Advil or any other type of human pain releiver. Call your vet and have them suggest something to you. They may want to see her to make sure she didn't pull a muscle or worse.
I used to give my dog bute, its like ibuprofen for horses. but dont feed too much, 20lb dog 1000lb horse. you get the point.
My vet said that coated Bufferin is ok to give dogs. When my GSD was stung by a bee on the nose, after treating her, this is what they said we could give her.
You can give coated baby aspirin but I'd suggest a trip to the vet to get proper medication that will not harm the pup!

Pick 2 meal times (morning and night) and set a strict schedule. Put the food out for 15 minutes, then pick it up. They get NOTHING until the next meal. Don't "cave". They will learn really quickly to eat the food that's out during meal time.
They won't starve themselves.

My friend raises bostons %26 she's very strict about their diets. In the morning she gives them raw carrots mixed with fish %26 potato kibble. In the evening, it's just the kibble with a little water in it to moisten it. She said the fish %26 potato is good for their skin %26 digestion. She does not offer them anything during the day except for 1 dog biscuit when they go into their kennels. That's it. She said they learn to eat or they go hungry until the next meal %26 very few have ever skipped more than 1 meal. You just gotta be firm %26 it'll work.

I have two 11month old brindled strip female american terriers"pit bulls", They are living with 1cat&3children
they take baths and would hop in with u if u dont close the door ,they love water and playing fetch, they love to crawl in the bed or couch with my 5 yr old shes their best friend and if she catches them with her dolls she runs right up to them the dogs roll over showing bellly and she removes the toy No problem there. Now the cat we had 1st everything is ok as long as she walks pass their food. they just stare at her an she leaves the food alone (the dogs share their food with each other)- they are under my watch because of the sterotype title"pitbull" i see no difference in them as to the other dogs i have had . The only thing is obedience school its 600.for 2 .Iam trying to stop them from becoming excited when they see other dogs iam not sure it they want to play or fight. I found out later that they came from fighter parents. They were also treated for dermadectic mange. But i want dog friendly dogs and also i want them to learn the sit and stay comand were as i only can undo.!

It is all in how they are raised. The only problem is that if the child does something to make them think she is being aggressive toward them (bless their little hearts, children don't mean too) then the dogs may bite her. They have jaws that unhinge and that is what promotes the danger there. They may not let go easily. I think you may be asking how to train them. The American Kennel Club associates in my area often offer free obedience lessons. You have to go with your dog and they train you in how to train your dog. It is a very good class that lasts about 12 weeks. Please watch your child. She won't mean any harm, but children sometimes are a little rough. The dogs may hurt her for hurting them even it was an accident.

your crazy for allowing your child to play around a pit bull, i lost my niece two years ago becuase my sister thought her pit bull was so cute and a wonderful pet, that was until the babysitter went outside to check the maila nd returned to find the dog literally chewing my nieces face off, and then went for her (my nieces) throat, thus unforuantely killing her, even if she had lived she would have been disfigured horribly from scars the 'cute and adorable' pit bull inflicted on her.
Anyone that owns a pit bull should be forced to turn their dogs into the local pound and then the dogs should be put down. Pit bulls are nothing but war/big game hunting dogs bred to kill and not meant to be a childs pet!
I hope my sisters tragedy spares you, but id advise getting rid of the pit bull and getting a small dog like a schanuser(sp or a chiwawa(sp again) or even a hamster or gerbil or gold fish, anything but a dog thats natural instinct is to maim.

I spent a week at my uncle's house and the dog spent most of the time with his head in my lap trying to get some attention.
From everything I've seen and read, consistancy is the only way to teach a dog anything. Be firm and punish the dog every time he does something wrong.
If the dog isn't supposed to get up on a couch you have to take him off every time he does and tell him no. If he's allowed to be on it ever he'll get confused.
Maybe taking them to a park where there are other dogs will get them used to being around others. If you have friends with dogs maybe they can bring theirs too so you can have them play together.

do you have a friend that owns a full grown dog? if so, then set them up on play date, where you two have them on leashes, and let them get to know eachother. if they act agressive towards the other dog, then i would say that you need to find the $600, and get them into the classes. or even just $300, and do one at a time, or enroll one, and then use what you learn at the classes, to teach the other dog at home.
if they just play, then i would say you are in the clear, and not to worry!

But when we first brought her home we were cautious, because we didn't know ANYTHING about her history. But we also wanted a dog friendly dog, and an obedient dog. So we had to test her personality. We have a friend who also has an adult pit bull. His dog is known to be very friendly with ALL dogs. So we brought our dog over. We put them both on a leash, and the men held them, so they could control the situation if anything happened. First we just stood near each other, making them Both sit, to see their reactions. They were both fine, interested, but not at all showing aggression. So we let them sniff each other. Again, they were fine, no problems. After that they started wanting to play. So we let them play. We found out that we were lucky to get a dog friendly pit bull. She loves ALL dogs! But even though our pit bull is dog friendly, we are aware that not ALL dogs are dog friendly, so we still keep her leashed until we are sure the two dogs will get along, because if the other dog tried to bite my pit bull, my pit bull would dominate in a fight, and I do NOT want that. So, you need to see where your dogs stand in dog aggression. If they are not dog aggressive, then GREAT! But, if they are, then you need to seek professional help. Pit Bulls CAN be dangerous dogs, only because of their strength. And if they start barking aggressively or growling when they see another dog, STOP, don't go any further, find a professional.
For obedience, I'm not an obedience trainer, but I trained my dog to sit and stay with no problem. She is very smart, as most pit bulls are, and she caught on quick. She will stay for 1/2 hour if I asked her too. If you can't afford the obedience classes, try just asking your veterinarian for some training tips. They usually have dogs, and have worked with many dogs, and can give you some help. Good Luck with your pit bulls!
First off, shop around for trainers. My wife and I looked around and found one near where we live in a doggie day-care store that was relatively inexpensive. Dog day-care's cash cow is the day care, so if they offer training, it may be more affordable.
Remember training of dogs is really training of their owners, too. If you want the dog to learn sit, you need to be patient and persistent. Start by standing in front of the dog. Hold a tret in front of its nose, and slowly move the treat up and back over their head. The dog will have to sit in order to watch the treat, so as soon as you start moving the treat, command them clearly: "SIT." As soon as their rear touches the ground, give the treat, say "GOOD Dog!" in a cheerful voice, and pat them and praise them. Work with them over and over. After a few days if they're smart dogs, you will be able to stop moving the treat over their head, and will be able to just say, "SIT." Try it. Do not issue commands twice, let them think about it. Say, "SIT" without moving the treat, without hand signals, or anything. As soon as they sit, treat and praise. It sounds easy... it's not difficult, and depends on how fast the dog catches on.
DOWN is similar. Once the dog gets sit OK, you will move the treat towards the floor. They will probably try to follow the treat, as they lower themselves, move the treat away fromt hem along the floor so they lie down, then move the treat slightly to one side, to make the dog rotate their head and shift their weight so they're completely lying down. Issue commend DOWN just as they begin to move down, and when they get to final position, "GOOD Dog!" treat and praise.
Over and over.
A trainer can work on more advanced training like stay, down-stay, and more that will come in useful.
Training dogs to stay calm when they see other dogs is hard. One way to start this is to bribe them into behaving on the leash. Keep treats with you when you walk. When you see other dogs coming, distract your dog with the treat, and then let them have it when the other dog has passed by as long as your dog is behaving well. Eventually they should learn: when I see another dog, I will pay attnetion to my owner and behave. It's a more advanced skill to learn though, and you should have them well-taught on sit, down and stay first to make it easier. This way you can tell them to sit and stay when a strange dog goes by, and your dog knows if they behave, they get a treat and attention.

OK people are sooo stereotypical. I have pit bulls and they are the most loving dog I have ever owned. At 53 pounds each they both still think they are lap dogs! (One isn't even full grown yet) Heres the deal. ANY dog no matter what breed it is has the potential to be mean. BUT I think it has a lot to do with the way the dog is raised and treated by the family who owns it. Mine love to play with little kids. My nieces come over and the dogs get all excited grabbing toys cause they think of it as party time the kids are here!!! Though I have noticed mine are fine with other dogs if we aren't at home but my adult female is territorial of our yard if a stray comes over un invited. SOo decide for your self. I trained them myself and have learned that they will do anything asked of them if you give them a treat. She sits when I say and will stay till I dismiss her so try training them yourself if ya want and if that doesn't work send them to a trainer it is worth it.

Please, get a book on training. There are many good ones out there. Also if you read up on dog breeding you might alter your opinion and respect of different dog "breeds". Pitt bulls did not get there reputation by being the best "family pet". Life definitely would be easier for you , your kids and the pups if you choose to put them in a more appropriate home. I am sure there are great stories of pit bulls making great family pets; there are also stories of people winning lotteries. Do you want to play against the odds with your family's safety ??

I have tried everything... How can i get flies off my dogs ears???
I have cleaned their living area every day, i bought fly traps, and put neosporin on his ears every day, and the flies keep landing on his ears and eating him alive. Anybody know any goooood remedies that keep the flies away or kills them?

If it doesn't bug your dog's nose too much (some dogs are bugged more by this than others), put a tiny bit of vinegar on or around his ears. Do not put it IN his ears, of course. Flies can't stand vinegar.
If the vinegar does bug your dog, then take him to the vet and see what he says.
Go to a horse supply store and get a product named "Shield". You spray it right on the animal.
Take them to a vet and for about 20 dollars depending on how much the weigh, they will give you some medicine drops and it REALLY works.
Bag balm works real well also. The flies are usually around the ears and eyes for the moisture. You can coat the ears and under the eyes w/the bag balm. They use it on cows. Once the ears have healed from the fly bites you should be able to discontinue for a bit.

*Research and figure out the right breed for you - what kind of puppy do you want? - laid-back?, doesn't shed much?, active?, big, small? also consider the health issues of the breed you want, always take into consideration that your puppy will be a lifelong companion so you should and always consider the health issues that they may have. These are some of the things you have to consider when you look for that perfect little companion.
* Second - NEVER EVER BUY a puppy from Pet Stores - by doing so you are supporting the Horrible conditions of Puppy Mill dogs, DO a google search on puppy mills and you'll see what I mean.
Remember AN UNHEALTHY PUPPY IS ALSO AS CUTE AS A PROPERLY BRED PUPPY... You might be able to get your money back from pet stores but will you be willing to return something that has captured your heart?

There's always the newspaper you can put an ad out that you are looking for a puppy, and if someone has a litter they will call you...Or set up an online ad for your area! Good luck!
Please, please, ohhhhh PLEASE hang on until your shelter gets unwanted puppies in - ask them to let you know as soon as they do. It must happen quite frequently - it does in most places.
Please don't ever buy from a pet store because they buy from puppy farms, and definitely don't buy a puppy online - apart from the cruel methods used to produce them, a lot of online ads are scams and you will lose your money and never see a pet.
Sorry to repeat myself but please do be patient - the right puppy will come along and not only will you have saved her life, you will be keeping money out of the puppy farmers' pockets.

The dogs that rescue organisations usually have have been in foster care so the carer will be able to tell you the temperament of the dog.
If you don't want to rescue a dog, then do a search for a reputable breeder.
Have you tried petfinder.com? They have puppies from all over the US. Just put in your search criteria the size you want and puppy and you will get a huge list. A number have foster homes and thus you will know their temperament as well.

Also you can look on the rescue sight for that breed (for ex boxer rescue, lab rescue etc.) Have you ever had a puppy, it's a lot like having a baby, also puppies tend to be very energetic until they are a few years old. As for healthy, check to make sure the nose is moist, that is a good sign if it is. If it seems lacking in energy that may not be good either. Ask if it has been dewormed, all dogs ne to be dewormed esspecially puppies. If you are looking for a certain breed, you may also want to research the breeds personality. Good luck

I have to get rid of my dog of 15 years and wondered if i should adopt or put her down?
i asked this question before but i want to tell you the whole story, when we had this dog my brother picked her out and we had good times with this dog but 4 or 5 years ago my brother died, we had to sell our house and move to a condo, now we are getting complaints becuz we dont have a hard and the dog does her buisness on the deck, we cant buy a new house cuz they are just too expensive, her health is ok , but i just dont know what to do ,i love her so much but just in a bad situation right now

I would rather live in a cardboard box than kill or get rid of my two dogs. Why can't you walk them so they can get exercise and do their business outside? I lived in an apartment for 2 years with my dogs, and I took them to a park to run around and go to the washroom. They never once had an accident inside.
Since you don't have a back yard I suggest you get the dog on a regiment of taking her on walks. It only takes a few minutes of your time a couple times a day. I would never put a dog down just for convenience sake. I know yu love the dog and this can be easily worked out.
If I was you I would adopt her to someone who has a yard to still live her life out she deserves a chance to live just like you and me or put a add in the free column for her. You can even take a picture of her and take it to the humane society letting them now your looking for good home for the dog

Put flyers up around your neighborhood for a free dog. You should get some responses right away. Never put down a healthy dog that could make a good pet!!!

giving her to a shelter would be a bad idea. they know that people wont buy an old dog and it would be the first to be put don by them. can't you train her? whats wrong with her?
Dont put her down, her life is still ful and has a longntime ahead of her, try investing in a pet house, with a carpet and a small cage, train her to go to the toilet in a certain spot, if you do look for ahouse, advertise to a good home only, discuss the situation with respective people, and see how teh dog likes the house and family, you should be able to visit and perhaps it owuld be beneficial to have a trial period of a week or two, this way you can see how the dog is taking the nbew family and if shes getting treated good.

Call them..they will be willing to take the dog and try to find a home for it.
Why can't you leash the dog and take it for a walk to do it's business elsewhere? Bring plastic bags and pick up the dogs poop.
Sorry, but if you love her as much as you claim you do..then take the time to walk her and pick up after her.
This is so sad. I'm so sorry for you but sometimes things happen and we are forced to do things we really don't want to do. If your dog is not sick then why don't you try to find someone to take her. Someone you know and that knows the dog would be perfect, but don't end her life just because you don't have a yard. Try to find someone, maybe put an add in the paper or something. Good luck

Adopt out. Someone, somewhere, will gladly take her off your hands and give her the yard she needs.
giving her to a shelter would be a bad idea. they know that people wont buy an old dog and it would be the first to be put don by them. can't you train her? whats wrong with her?
Dont put her down, her life is still ful and has a longntime ahead of her, try investing in a pet house, with a carpet and a small cage, train her to go to the toilet in a certain spot, if you do look for ahouse, advertise to a good home only, discuss the situation with respective people, and see how teh dog likes the house and family, you should be able to visit and perhaps it owuld be beneficial to have a trial period of a week or two, this way you can see how the dog is taking the nbew family and if shes getting treated good.

Also, you could share her, if you have a famliy who likes her, that way yopu can still visit and maybe every few weeks take her for wlaks and have niht stays at your house.
My nanna did this with her dog, moved into a nursing home, and her dog lives with an old friend of hers, (younger friend, but when she use to live in teh same street). this has worked for her, and the dog is allowed to visit nana too!
Well first things first i would never put down a dog that is health. Second ask some friends or family if they want the dog cuz the closer to you the more you can see your doggy. Then if that doesnt work bring you dog to a no-kill shelter then she can have the chance ya know. And no matter how long or short of time it takes you will find her or him a good home.You also might want to try putting an add in a paper or online too. So many people are looking for pets so you never know. Don't give up thats a lil life too.
I have to get rid of a 100lb, 4 year old dog.?
Any suggestions on how to get rid of a dog this big? I have two dogs and this one is causing problems with my kids and the other dog. I would like to find someone to take him but have been unsuccessful doing so.

be honest about his personality...
explain why you are letting him go so the people who take him will know if they can handle him or not...
or
turn him over to a rescue group
or to the SPCA or Humane Society in your area.
Two of my dogs are that size, but you didn't say what breed your dog is. I love big dogs of this one breed, but not all large brees would appeal to me. Please add that to your question as you might find someone who would be interested who's reading these questions.. BUT
they need to know what breed. There are some breeds I will not consider... breed tells a lot about personality and this is important information the person who might consider rehoming your dog needs to know...
"Get rid off" I really hate those words when referring to what is suppose to be a member of your family. I don't think you have enough info posted on why you want to re-home your dog for anyone to intelligently reply.
try a rescue org. theres rescues for all types of breed. he might be a problem to you, but he could very well be the best thing to someone else. just remember humane societies and shelters euthanize. to me thats just not an option.

Do some research on dominance and have you and your family practice it. It sounds to me like you have a dog that is overly dominant over your whole family, you included.
Try to see if your local animal shelter will take him and put him up for adoption. Chances are he Will find a new family that will love to have him.

I've kept up to 6 dogs in the house and never allowed them to start anything...but I know some people have to learn to be a pack leader. And few people actually give their dogs enough exercise and training.

They are both panting very heavily and farting barly eating i have been having problems with the neighbors who don't like my dogs they really have no reason not to but any ways i think that they may have been giving my dogs poison this just started a couple of days ago i am very worried about them they are not acting like themselfs they have beendrooling more then usual too they were digging right by my fence and no where else like they were lookin for something. It does sound like possible poisoning. You really need to have them seen by a vet.

Someone could have thrown something over the fence, and if it is anti-freeze, for instance, it is CRUCIAL to the animals that they get treated ASAP - please don't hesitate to take them in - you might find yourself without dogs if you don't.

OMG,, drooling, etc.. is a sign of poisoning... keep them away from the fence and neighbor for a few days and see what happens,,, i hope to god that your neighbors wouldn't stoop so low...

To the point they want to lay in my bed pant and keep me awake with their hot breath and vibrating the bed. Make sure they have plenty of water. I eat less when its hot to.
